Bluegrass Knoll

There is no place on earth that I would rather be than at Bluegrass Knoll. It is my baby, my creation and my home. I have expended unfathomable amounts of thought, time and energy for 25 years to reveal my dream of long ago.

Being a farm girl from Kentucky, it was natural to want to work with the land. I love the land. The rolling gentleness of the hills, the openness, the views, the light. Bluegrass Knoll's 12 acres has provided me with the canvas to paint my landscape with greenery. I have planted close to 500 trees along with numerous gardens filled with every perennial that I could nab from friends, neighbours and garden centers. A quarter of a century later, the plantings are maturing and getting lovelier and lovelier every year. It is rewarding watching my baby grow and come into its own.

The home studio of Garlough Photo also has my stamp upon it. With family and friends help, I have been involved in every aspect of design and construction. We did not contract anything out when we framed our home in 1982. We were the construction crew and thus began my life as a home builder. There is a Chinese proverb that states, "Man Who Finishes House - Dies". I should live forever for even after 25 years the house is not completely finished. Our home is far from perfect, but it is my and my sweetie's creation.

Many a shoot has been orchestrated within our home, often utilizing the warmth of the many varieties of wood: pine, cherry, black walnut, maple oak and basswood. The open kitchen has often been transformed into a studio complete with backdrop and lights. This is when my clients know they are literally at a home studio. It is my hope that we can maintain Bluegrass Knoll for many years. It provides us with space, joy and purpose.
